Controversy as Bill Maher Wins American Atheist Award

An interesting controversy has broken out in the US following the announcement that comedian Bill Maher will receive the Atheist Alliance International’s 2009 Dawkins Award. Maher, while standing alongside atheists and rationalists on questions of religion, has some fairly unorthodox views on health care and medicine. Read the full article at New Humanist

Proof that being an atheist doesn't mean you don't hold any irrational beliefs.
This makes me question if he's really a rationalist, or simply anti-establishment.
I think it is a little unfair to critisize Bill Maher for questioning “some” aspects of western medicine. He has stated numerous times that if he is dying he will go to the hospital,a nd that Overall, western medicine, is the best medicine on earth. His problem is accepting stuff from pharmacueticals, proven by pharmaceutical studies, and approved by the FDA by a huge pharmacuetical lobby. Perhaps they don’t exactly have our best interests at heart. I cannot believe so many free-thinkers are attacking this guy for simply believing that Fat americans need to start eating better and exerciszing, instead of resorting to pills that just happen to pay of pharmaceuticals.
