“God Hates You, Hate Him Back: Making Sense of The Bible” ~ New Book by CJ Werleman (@Rationalists)

God Hates You, Hate Him Back is a new must read book by our very own CJ Werleman (aka: @Rationalists).  Congratulations CJ! (Buy it on Amazon)

God Hates You, Hate Him Back makes the ultimate case for the claim that the God of the Bible is the most wicked character in the pages of history. With a wit as dry as a martini, and the cross examination techniques of a seasoned lawyer, CJ Werleman lays out all sixty-six chapters of the Bible to present an irrefutable argument that indeed God hates us all. If you have never read or never fully understood The Bible because of it’s lifeless 16th century King’s English then you will do no better than this unique, comedic, 21st century summary of the greatest story ever sold, or in Werleman’s own words ‘never read’. God Hates You, Hate Him Back provides you with an arsenal of Biblical facts, stories, mythology and assertions to ensure you victory in your next religious debate. ~ Amazon.com

  1. Just bought the book as a gift for my atheist son, (I’m one too!) He should love it!

  2. Anyone buying this book is proof there’s a sucker born-again every minute!

One person with a delusion is insanity. Many people with a delusion follow Richard Dawkins.

  3. You again! Christians like you are the biggest suckers of all time. Did God 'speak' to you, or did you come back just because you like hanging out with us Atheists? How's the that fairytale non-sense working for you?

  4. I follow Christ Jesus and through Him I know the truth and the truth has set me free.

    Some people however have;

  5. Gospel,

Funny, as one who has come from the dark dogma of religion, I'm reveling in the light of reality. Atheist is such a poor name–realist is much better. You're named Christian because you believe in a mythical being, I'm named realist because I believe in the worldview that has accomplished everything modern man has accomplished including the internet.

I challenge you to simply ask "why do I believe?" Ultimately, it will come because you were told to believe by others who were told to believe since there's never been a wit of evidence for any supernatural god.

Doesn't that make you at least wonder about such unfounded faith?

    It sure did for me.

  9. I wonder how many people, who read Richard Dawkins’ book, The God Delusion, caught the point that (on page 74 in the paperback version) Richard Dawkins wrote that he is only making an “assumption” about his believe of God’s nonexistence.

The Richard Dawkins Delusion (Part 2) – The god Richard Dawkins http://bit.ly/4nFJ0L

  10. Hi @gospelToday

If you understood the point the Dawkins was trying to make – it apparently eludes you – it’s that you cannot prove something does not exist. For those of us who understand logic and the scientific method, we would never claim that we are 100% certain that god doesn’t exist, but we can, given all the evidence that supports a natural explanation of the world, state with a high degree of certainty that god doesn’t exist. Technically an assumption, but one that’s backed up by evidence.

  11. Hi Michael,
Did you catch the fact (on page 77 in the paperback version of “The God Delusion”) that Richard Dawkins said that God is not disprovable?

Here then he goes on to delude his prey that it is irrelevant that one cannot disprove God’s existence and says that his seven graduated levels of milestone human judgments about the existence of God is the right way to disprove God.

The very table that Richard Dawkins put together to disprove God through his “spectrum of probabilities” he says is the best way to disprove God whom he said just before is not disprovable. Well, duh! Leave it to Richard Dawkins to trick his prey into thinking that he can do the impossible and disprove something that is by his own words said that cannot be disproved.

The Richard Dawkins Delusion (Part 2) – The god Richard Dawkins http://bit.ly/4nFJ0L

  12. Leave it to Richard Dawkins to proclaim that he can do such miracle as to disprove God's existence because he holds supreme power over his prey since he is going to use something of his own design to disprove something that is not disprovable so to prove to his prey his powerful powers and that his assumption is the truth and that he is right and his word is truth, as always forever and ever it will be.

The Richard Dawkins Delusion (Part 2) – The god Richard Dawkins http://bit.ly/4nFJ0L

  13. Sorry @GospelToday, that’s certainly not what Dawkin’s is saying. His spectrum merely describes where you can place folk along a finite continuum of 100% theism at one end and 100% atheism at the other. Dawkin himself doesn’t even suggest that he belongs at the far end of the atheist side. Look, Dawkins’ arguments are far from perfect; I find some of his conclusions are far fetch and for someone who espouses scientific inquiry he often lacks the rigor to link his claims to his evidence. Nevertheless, we can argue back and forth about Dawkins, but the fact is that you cannot prove that God exists, and describing anyone who disagrees with your worldview as “Dawkins’ prey” is disingenuous. Unfortunately whenever I engage a particular segment of the Christian population who insist on visiting these blogs and engaging atheists in debate, it inevitably turns into pissing match over who has the pithiest insults. Shame on me I guess for trying to engage you.

  14. Michael, thank you for giving me the heads up that you are prone to giving insults to those who do not agree with you. I’m used to having insults hurled at me but have never been forewarned that they would come.

If you had read my article you would know that Dawkins’ prey are those who do not think for themselves and just take his word as the truth because he said it and because he is supposedly so highly educated. Apparently you however do, do some thinking for yourself as you state that Dawkins’ “conclusions are far fetch and for someone who espouses scientific inquiry he often lacks the rigor to link his claims to his evidence.”

Why do you think it is that Dawkins doesn’t link his claims to any evidence?

  15. Wow @GospelToday, way to quote me out of context and then put words in my mouth. To repeat, I stated that "some" of Dawkins' conclusions are far fetch, but you quoted me so it appears that I believe that all of his conclusions are as such. Then you ask: “Why do you think it is that Dawkins doesn’t link his claims to any evidence?” Answer: I don’t; and this isn’t what I said and I’d like to think that you know that and are simply resorting to typical argumentative techniques that I often have to deal with when debating a certain segment of the Christian population, who for some inexplicable reason, troll around on these blogs deliberately provoking rather than trying to engage in any meaningful debate.

Anyway, I’ve read articles by McGrath and, in my opinion, he needs to drop his little crusade against Dawkins as he pretty much does exactly what he accuses and criticizes Dawkins for doing. He’s embarrasses himself intellectually. And you’re doing pretty much the same thing as McGrath with your assumption that those of us who have read Dawkins and (mostly) agree with what he says as not being able to think to ourselves (remind me what your religion espouses about judging others). Can I not make the same assumption as you? For you seem to take McGrath for his word (not to say anything about the bible, which, judging from your handle, you also take for its word – unquestioned).

So I ask, in all seriousness, what are you doing here? Did god speak to you and direct you to visit atheist run blogs and provoke? You’re not doing much to good to promote your religion, and you’re not, if I may say so, acting like a good Christian.

You see, I too can provoke!

  16. Michael, my apologies for not putting the word, “some” when I quoted you and in the question I asked of you about Dawkins. Taking things out of context does have a negative affect doesn’t it?

I’ve not read any articles by McGrath. As such, I don’t have an opinion on if he embarrasses himself intellectually as Dawkins does or not.

I’m not promoting religion. I follow Christ Jesus and His teachings. God did not directly tell me to visit atheist blogs however with special gifts He's given to me I teach His ways and am salt of the earth.

My visiting atheist blogs and questions come from me reading Richard Dawkins’ book, “The God Delusion” last year. I find it amazing that people actually take Richard Dawkins seriously and am wanting to know why that is so? Why do you think it is that Dawkins sometimes often lacks the rigor to link his claims to his evidence?

  17. Hi @GospelToday,

First, I want to offer an apology. I think that from your last post I can safely surmise that you are sincere and after reading some of the vitriol in some previous posts directed your way, I can understand why you come across as defensive. I appreciate that you’ve actually read Dawkins, I suggested his book to some Christians on other blogs only to be scoffed at – nothing annoys me more that folk who outright reject something without first reading it. I like that you actually want to understand the fascination with Dawkins. My answer is I just don’t know, but only because I would argue that he is not the only person out there writing about atheism or critiquing religion in all its forms (the title of his book is, I believe, deliberatively provocative). In my opinion though, I think it’s that Dawkins really simplifies some the reasons atheists reject religion, god(s), superstition, belief/faith. In fact it’s one of my own issues that I have with Dawkins. A far better read is Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs, and Steel. I know that Diamond’s book isn’t about atheisms per se, but I like that he conducts a thorough analysis from a number of perspectives including biology (in general terms) and anthropology. And that brings up my second concern about Dawkins. In The God Delusion I was excited to see a Chapter titled The Origins of Religion (or something like that – I don’t have my copy of the book readily available). I was hoping that he would take that anthropological view about the beginnings of religion, but he didn’t and to that end, he missed an opportunity to strengthen his argument. I do have other concerns, but unfortunately, I am short on time. Suffice to say, I think you’re asking the wrong question when you question why people take Dawkins serious. My answer is why not? Like I say, it’s easy to criticism some aspects of his thesis, but it doesn’t invalidate what he’s getting at; my own dissertation for example, was full of holes, but I was assured that it didn’t devalue my research.

  18. Apology accepted Michael. Thank you.

I read a lot of secular authors' works as I am trying to understand the reasoning behind Atheism in their minds. I’ve not read Jared Diamond’s “Guns, Germs, and Steel” is this the one you are talking about? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns,_Germs,_and_Ste... If so, I’ll read it otherwise, please point me to the one you are talking about.

You stated that I’m asking the wrong question in my asking people why take Dawkins seriously and said, “My answer is why not?” take him seriously. The series of articles I’ve written which I just posted the third part on is why I say to not take Dawkins seriously. The Richard Dawkins Delusion (Part 3) – Richard Dawkins’ Non Existence http://bit.ly/7gqRkr I suggest that if you choose to read the articles that you start with part one. The Richard Dawkins Delusion (Part 1) http://bit.ly/925XGC

If you are open to it, I’d like to ask you to answer some questions to help me understand better your atheist position?

  19. Why do you even try to debate Christians? You don't try and debate children over the existence of Santa Claus. Just humor them like you humor kids…suuurree there is an all knowing God who created the universe with the foreknowledge that the devil will exist and most of us are going to eternal suffering in hell…buuutt heee looovvveesss yooouu. lol

  20. The truth is there probably is a God/creator. He probably isn't acurately portrayed in the bible. He probably doesn't love us. He probably doesn't speak to people. We probably have a wrong concept of what a God is (we could be a computer science project and been "created" lol). And, in a thousand years humans will probably be worshiping another deity or sets of deities…look at the progression of Gods throughout history. Probably we will be killing eachother in the name of these new deities.

Science has only been around for a fraction of the existence to the planet (sorry christians, the earth isn't 6,000 years old). It isn't ultimate truth because we keep learning new things every day. Scientifict fact changes over time, so fact isn't truth…truth is static while fact is fluid. So citing scienctific fact as truth is dumb. Look at scientific fact from the 1600's and compare it to modern science. It's laughable. And our modern science will be laughable in 400 years.

So the truth is WE DON'T KNOW SH$T. Accept that. Live your life in a way that benefits your family, friends, and fellow man. You have roughly 75 years on the planet make the most of them :)

  21. So what you are saying is we don't know sh$t so we should assign some arbitrary (albeit high in your case) probability that a "God/creator" invented by bronze age humans exists?

  22. Exactly and this is especially true with @gospeltoday. We might as well be arguing over the existence of leprechauns and unicorns.

  23. Hi there @GospelToday,

Sorry for the delayed response – holidays and all. Anyway, that is the same “Guns Germs and Steel” that I highly recommend. That’s the first time I’ve seen the Wikipedia entry about the book and I believe it just goes to show that any argument is open to criticism. I also noted in the related reading section at the bottom of the Wikipedia entry a book called “Ishmael” by Daniel Quinn. This is also worth a read despite its almost juvenile prose (Quinn’s “The Story of B” is marginally better).

    con't…

  24. Continued from previous post.

I glanced over the series of Dawkin Delusion posts and i will give them more time, but from what I saw thus far, I have to admit, I’m going to have a very hard time reading them objectively as the author seemingly does exactly what he/she accuses Dawkins of doing. Also, I have little tolerance for those who quote the bible to support their arguments because I don’t believe the bible was divinely inspired – I believe that it’s simply a collection of purposively selected ancient texts retranslated and reinterpreted throughout the past 1500 – 2000 years. Some of the material in the bible is regurgitated from older oral history from earlier cultural horizons; some of the material describes (from a certain point of view) events that actually happened as verified in the archaeological record.

    con't…

  25. Continued from previous post…

Nevertheless, I do not believe the bible proves the existence of god and I have yet to hear or read an argument that will make me think otherwise. Also, for the record, I’ve been challenged in another blog to read the bible, as the challenger was certain that this would change my perspective. With this person’s guidance, I’ve been reading more of the bible in recent months, but I cannot shake my (what I believe to be safe) assumptions about what the bible really is. To me, it’s akin to reading Homer and believing that Zeus and Apollo are real, living Gods. On that note, I certainly welcome you to ask me anything you wish and I’m grateful that you actually wish to understand why I think the way I do with respect to God and Christianity and to religions and spirituality in general. But please keep in mind, atheism is not a way of life for me; it’s simply a lack of belief in a supernatural power/creator/being. My ethics and the way I live are the product of a number of different philosophies – I do not act because I’m an atheist.

    Cheers.

  26. One more note @GospelToday, in reading your link to the Richard Dawkins Delusion part 1, I read the following:

“All other beliefs, gods and religions (including the religion of Atheism) are purely myth, mere opinion, often including fictional characters and events but are not absolute truth. Although these fictional gods and religions may have been based on partial truth, a person from history and hold some moral value standards which resemble the solely one true God, they are neither a path of salvation for ones sins nor a path into Heaven.”

    Here’s where I stopped:

“I was taught to give respect to all people regardless of their religious beliefs, color of skin, age or nationality. I was taught that there is only one race of people, the human race which all mankind was created by God”

How can one claim to be respectful of all people after telling them that their whole belief system or world view is pure myth?

Please tell me you can see the hypocrisy.

  27. I'll check them each out. Thank you for pointing them out to me. :-)

  28. You didn't say what it is that I'm doing that you say I accuse Dawkins of doing?

I believe in the Holy Bible as the Word of God. How do you account for logical thinking and science when you I take it believe in abiogenisis and Darwinism?

  29. If you are only reading the Holy Bible to prove to the person who challenged you to read it that you'll not believe it, then why are you wasting your time?

  30. Let’s say that I’m at the Grand Canyon, in an area of it which has very narrow trails that have no hand rails yet the sheer cliff drop to the bottom of the canyon floor is just a mere slip away for even the most accomplished hiker and rock climber. Now me knowing the trail is there and how treacherous it is for even experienced hikers, would you call me a hypocrite for informing a blind person of the dangers of his or her choice who had chosen to take that trail to the bottom of the canyon thinking it was a safe way to go without any consequences?

  31. The Atheist worldview is in a great crisis because it has no foundational support for what it says it believes in. The Atheist worldview holds as truth that it is based on science, logic, and reason. In fact, the Atheist worldview has no basis to prove that it is based on science, logic, and reason without actually giving evidence that the Biblical worldview is true because only the Biblical worldview by its own definition is founded on science, logic and reason as set forth within the Holy Bible. Both the Atheist worldview and the Biblical worldview cannot both be true because that would be a contradiction breaking the law of non-contradiction therefore, the Atheist worldview is false and the Biblical worldview is true.

Beyond Doubt – Christianity is True – Atheism is False http://bit.ly/5vtvvF

  32. Sorry @GT. I didn’t realize that the links you provided were to your own blog. Anyway, that’s a really poor analogy so I’ll restate my question for you. Is it hypocritical to state that you respect all people then suggest their way of life is false? Yes or no will suffice and I will take any further obfuscation as a yes.

  33. Part 1 of 5 (five parts because it will not let me post it as one)__Michael, maybe I should have used the analogy of a drug addict, anorexic, or alcoholic but that Grand Canyon one was the one I thought of first…__it seems to me as if you don’t want to understand just how serious it is when someone doesn’t take their life seriously. I respect all people as I stated in the article you quoted me from and I respect you and your decision to not place your faith into Christ Jesus. I do not agree with your decision and would like for you to change your mind and for you to at least sincerely, fairly, and willingly honestly seek the truth yet that is your choice to make or not.__

  34. Part 2 of 5
For you to call me (or imply) that I am a hypocrite for telling someone the truth is to imply that you do not believe in Christ Jesus’ redemptive love for each of us. If you understood the severity of the errors of not taking seriously what I am presenting to you, you would not be an atheist however you are an atheist and at this time you do not understand. As long as you continue to be so arrogant, you will never understand and you will not be comfortable in your eternal life.

  35. Part 3 of 5
So to directly answer your question of, “How can one claim to be respectful of all people after telling them that their whole belief system or world view is pure myth?” I do so with clear conscious because I have respectfully informed you without degrading you as a person that you are on the wrong path for your eternal life. I have not been hypocritical as my message to you has been direct and without any deception, name calling or degrading of you personally.

  36. Part 4 of 5
I am and have been very respectful of all the others on this blog even when they were not to me. I will also continue to be respectful of you and them even when they continue to degrade Christ Jesus, my faith in Him and me. To me, the disrespect I have been shown by so many on this blog, other blogs and on Twitter is but a small hindrance to me which I can overlook because I honestly care about you and the others; maybe more so than you will ever know and then again, maybe not.

  37. Part 5 of 5
To directly answer your question, “. Is it hypocritical to state that you respect all people then suggest their way of life is false?” No, it is not hypocritical of me to respectfully tell a person his or her way of life is false when that person’s way of life is false leading them to an eternal separation from Christ Jesus to eternal damnation.

  38. part 4 of 4

You and I have different theological underpinnings. You believe that all humans require salvation. I do not. You hope to see every human (all 4.6 billion of us) repent and be saved. I simple ask: saved from what? I sincerely believe that you’re acting with the fullest of good intensions, but I think your particular brand of evangelical fundamentalism does more harm than good. I believe that your postings and unintentional antagonism on sites like this turn more folk away from Christianity a will never result in one single convert.

  39. It truly disgusts me to read these posts from a clearly intelligent man so deeply lost in his delusional beliefs.

  40. Michael, I too do not get into religion or spirituality. Religion leads people down the wrong path as does spirituality because as you stated there is nothing tangible about them due to them being all subjective and relative. Religion and spirituality are why people get bogged down, confused, and lost due to the lack of substance within religion and spirituality and due to all of the rigorous rules and strict guidelines one has to follow and adhere to just to get passing fulfillment. There are a lot of “religious” teachings out there as are there a lot of “spirituality” teachings and some are even masquerading as being Christian teachings yet they are all without absolute truth.

My faith is not however just something which as you stated as that I believe that my, “faith is something physical and objective” my faith “is in” Christ Jesus and in His physical resurrection from His physical death which is physical and objective. And yes, I know that you do not agree with Christ Jesus being resurrected from death however I do not know why you do not agree?

  41. Michael, http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/arrogan... = 1 : exaggerating or disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance often by an overbearing manner.

I’m not calling you or anyone arrogant because you or they do not agree with me. I’m saying that you and others are arrogant because you are not honestly and truly listening to what I am saying nor are you taking as what I am saying to you as something vitally important to your life. You and others choose to blind yourselves from learning the truth.

Yes, I am interested in hearing your story of becoming comfortable with the atheist label. You can tell it to me here or you can email it to me here: http://findingtruthtoday.org/EmailUs.aspx

  42. Michael, you asked from what is it you and I need saved. In short, the answer to that question is that we need saved from the longing desire we each have to do wrong and immoral acts and truly love each other. I know through my study that Atheism teaches that morality as a personal choice that each person chooses for himself or herself yet I know (as do you know) too that everyone including you and me know absolute law of morality, good from evil, right from wrong. Ignorance of the law is no excuse and we each will face judgment for our actions and inactions. Having salvation from our immoral acts through faith in Christ Jesus saves us from spending our eternal life without God forever.

I’m not trying to convert anyone to or from following Christ Jesus. As the salt of the earth, I’m just pointing the way to the absolute truth.

  43. Daniel, it doesn’t disgust me, it deeply saddens me when clearly intelligent people (including Michael and the others) are so deeply lost in their delusional beliefs that they do not want to open their minds to openly listening something so vitally important to their life. My faith is founded in Christ Jesus and the Holy Bible is scientifically confirmed in all ways making my faith in Christ Jesus that much stronger whereas those with delusional beliefs as you stated are floundering in Darwinism and Atheism which is not at all scientifically confirmed at all which is leading them to death and destruction. I can see how you can be disgusted with these people yet I suggest that you turn your disgust to sorrow towards these people deluded with such myths and fairytales as Darwinism and Atheism.

Beyond Doubt – Christianity is True – Atheism is False http://bit.ly/5vtvvF

  44. It amazes me that we fall into this trap every time and try to reason with these religious types. What a waste of time and effort!!! One might as well trying to debate with a fence post. They will never change their delusional mind no matter how much one would try. They can believe what ever fairy tale they wish, just don't try to ram it down my throat or try to subverse my children by pushing this crap into the public schools.

  45. Remember, each and every time that someone uses reason, logic, and science, thta person is confirming the Holy Bible being true and Atheism false.

Beyond Doubt – Christianity is True – Atheism is False http://bit.ly/5vtvvF

  46. I am very happy for you. Now go away.

  47. Like taking to a brick wall. I have tried it I give logic and reason point out the world and science but it is too complicated for those with a low IQ. They believe all that is told them, they do not argue with things they cannot understand to be true so it is a waste of time. In say two thousand years time some one will unearth Harry Potter books and that will be the new religion as many will believe it to be true and will not question it, as is in these days with so many religions, telling us there are so many gods.

  48. So you know it is true .Which god do you believe is true. Belief is one thing, proof is another.

  49. Elainek, you confirm the correctness of the Holy Bible when you use logic, reason and science and confirm the incorrectness of atheist beliefs.

    http://bit.ly/5vtvvF

  50. I pray for you and my prayer for you is for your salvation.

  51. The God both you and I will be on our knees bowing to as He judges over the choices we each have made while we lived on earth.

  52. If you’re using a version of Windows, you’ll be able to do this. (Windows XP, Windows Vista & Windows 7)

  53. well, yes; it would be contrary to his point if he were to say that he 'knows'

  54. are any of these comments actually about the book itself?

  55. as you are making an illogical and irrational assumption that there is a god…..

  56. YAY!! dailyatheist is awesome!!!

  57. Physics, Gravity, Logic and Reason, the universe expanding, the existence of comets, a human rib taken out of someone will grow back within two to three months as long as its periosteum is left intact, Human Genome Project all *confirm* the Bible. As does archeological findings and so much more confirm the Bible and points to God.

Your apathy today to look at the evidence will result in a consequence of your being lost forever. It is however your choice to make. Whose responsibility is it Anyway? http://findingtruthtoday.typepad.com/finding-trut...
