Think Atheist

We are at it again. Non-believers all over the country are waging a “WAR ON CHRISTMAS.”

I am constantly amazed at how much we like to have a war with made up holiday. We insist that all Christians not celebrate Christmas in their homes and churches or allow them to say “Merry Christmas.” I also enjoy telling Pagans not to have a ceremony on the Winter Solstice or let people of Jewish faith to light a menorah. For that matter I think any mention of Festivus should be banned including destroying any episode of Seinfeld that even hints at that particular celebration.

Seriously, the war on Christmas is as fake as the person the holiday is based on. I, for one, am more than willing to let people celebrate this time of year in any fashion they see fit, providing no laws are broken.

The only war being waged is the constant attacks on nonbelievers, especially in this season, on how we should let people celebrate the holidays and keep our “godless” ways out of the public view.

There are so many instances of these, which one can do a search on war and Christmas and the search will yield will over a million hits. Many of these will, undoubtedly lead you to a tirade by Bill O’reilly or some other “news person” on Fox.

But not to be outdone some of our elected officials have declared a “War on Secularism.” Whether it is Governor Walker of Wisconsin, or State Representative Doreen Costa both of whom are using an evergreen as their weapons of mass deception.

One day people look back at this time in history and wonder what kind of people we were. During a time of year when the biggest religion in the country proclaims “Peace on Earth,” is at the same time acting like children when they don’t get their way or their doctrine is called into question.

I leave off the phrase “Merry Christmas” and even forgo “Happy Holidays” for a more inclusive and, in my opinion, appropriate “Happy Winterfest”.

Medical News Today – May 26, 2011

Uh oh. Sex. As America’s “war on sex” once again heats up as the country slides toward another presidential election, a new Sex and Secularism study conducted by Kansas University undergraduate Amanda Brown and Dr. Darrel W. Ray is bound to raise some hackles among the religiously faithful. Controversy abounds.

After surveying over 14,500 secularists about their sex lives the study’s key findings were as follows:

Sex improves dramatically after leaving religion.

Sexual guilt has little staying power after leaving religion.

Those raised most religious show no difference from those raised least religious in their sexual behavior.

Those raised most religious experience far more guilt but have just as much sex.

Religious parents are far worse at educating their children on matters of sex.

Religious guilt differs in measurable amounts according to denomination.
